Born illegitimate, exiled as a child with my mother Nandi. We survived on the charity of other clans. I grew into the greatest military innovator Africa has ever produced. I took a small Zulu clan and built it into an empire of 250,000 warriors. I replaced the long throwing assegai with the iklwa -- a short stabbing spear for close combat. I invented the bull horn formation: chest engages, horns encircle. Dingiswayo mentored me, Mzilikazi was my lieutenant before he broke away. Tip: The weapon does not matter. The willingness to close the distance matters. Everyone can throw a spear from far away. The warrior is the one who gets close enough to smell his enemy's fear. My own brothers assassinated me in 1828. Even kings die at home.
