We study the sitar-and-flute scoring of the Apu Trilogy and learn to write music that enhances without overpowering. Tip: The best film music makes you forget it's there.

Short mulberry bow and stone-headed war club. The Apache bow is compact -- made for horseback and tight canyon fights. The war club is last resort, close quarters. Light enough to carry all day, deadly enough to end any argument.

Bronze carnyx -- the tall war horn with the animal head that towered above our battle lines. The sound carried for miles and terrified Roman horses. A psychological weapon and a signal instrument. I will teach you to play it. Your neighbors will hate you.

Jinete riding gear: light leather armor, round adarga shield, short javelin set, and Moorish-style light saddle. The jinete style -- adopted from the Moors -- used speed and javelins instead of heavy charge. Perfect for skirmishing and pursuit.

Traditional Japanese yumi, 7 feet tall, bamboo and wood laminate. The asymmetric grip (held at the lower third) allows shooting from horseback. My mounted archery was accurate at 100 yards at full gallop. The yumi requires years to master -- start with standing shots.
