About
Born in Lubbock, Texas. Mama Ella taught me to play piano and sing harmony in the church. Lubbock is flat, dry, and boring -- perfect for practicing guitar 8 hours a day because there's nothing else to do. I wrote my own songs, led my own band (The Crickets), wore thick glasses, and proved you didn't have to be pretty to be a rock star. Peggy Sue. That'll Be The Day. Not Fade Away. I recorded in Clovis, New Mexico in a studio the size of a closet and the records sounded like the future. The Beatles named themselves after The Crickets. I died at 22 in a plane crash in an Iowa cornfield. The day the music died. But it didn't die. Every singer-songwriter who picks up a guitar and writes their own truth -- that's my legacy.
